Meanwhile I have had under consideration a
request from the Directors for a grant from Colonial revenue similar to the grants already made annually to the Tung Wa and Kwong Wa Hospitals. Such grants were made during 1929 amounting to a total for all purposes to the Tung Wa Hospital of $20,500 and to the Kwong Wa Hospital of $43,000, including a sum of $25,000 allotted to the latter institution from the vote for General Chinese Charities, and the budget
for 1930 makes provision for similar allotments next year. I now propose subject to your concurrence to ask the Legislative Council early in 1930 to vote a sum of $25,000 as a grant in aid of the current expenses of the Tung Wa Eastern Hospital. In this connection I enclose a copy of an extract of my speech on the budget for 1930 made to the Legislative Council on September 23rd, 1929.
I also enclose
a newspaper report of the speeches made at the formal opening of the hospital.

As I should like to lay the matter before the Council in January next, I should be glad if I might receive
your reply by telegram.
